WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVRR/CNN) – Sources are reporting that the Department of Justice is investigating Minnesota governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

It’s reportedly over what the DOJ is calling possible obstruction of federal law enforcement.

The alleged probe comes after Walz and Frey spoke out against the recent actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the city and state.

On January 7th, an ICE agent shot and killed a 36-year-old woman in Minneapolis.

That was followed a week later by another shooting incident where an agent shot and wounded a man.

In response, President Donald Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act and send troops to the city.

Governor Walz did not confirm the reported investigation. In a statement, though, he accused the Trump Administration of “weaponizing the justice system.”

Mayor Frey’s office was contacted for comment.

The Justice Department declined to comment.
