MOORHEAD (KVRR/KFGO) – The teen arrested after police say he brought 1,500 fentanyl pills to Horizon Middle School in Moorhead has been referred to the Clay County Attorney for juvenile charges.

Police and the Moorhead Area Public School District say another student told the school resource officer after discovering the 13-year-old boy had the pills at school on Dec. 11.

He has been held at the Clay County Juvenile Detention Center for first-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Other details of the investigation haven’t been released due to the age of the suspect, but Moorhead Police say they are looking into how the 13-year-old got the drugs and whether any were distributed.

Investigators say the estimated street value of the drugs is more than $35,000.

Since the bust, the Moorhead Police Department has been collaborating with the school district to complete random K9 searches in all school buildings.
