MN U.S. Sen. Klobuchar takes first steps to launch run for governor

ST. PAUL (KVRR/FOX9) —  Sen. Amy Klobuchar has taken the first formal steps to launch a campaign for governor of Minnesota.

Sources told FOX 9 in the Twin Cities that Klobuchar has filed preliminary paperwork with the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board.

The step is seen as a preliminary one necessary in case she chooses to run.

The 65-year-old Democrat is in her fourth Senate term, having first won the seat in 2006.

Previously she was a Hennepin County prosecutor.

Klobuchar had an unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2020, losing the party’s nomination to Joe Biden.

Gov. Tim Walz ended his campaign for a third term earlier this month.

He said he wanted to dedicate his efforts to defending Minnesotans rather than engaging in political campaigning.

The discovery of widespread fraud during his tenure intensified the spotlight on him.

There are 12 Republicans running for governor, among them MyPillow founder Mike Lindell and House Speaker Lisa Demuth.
