North Dakota ops into federal scholarship program for K-12 students

North Dakota is participating in a new federal tax credit program for certain donations to organizations that provide K-12 education scholarships and services.
The program offers a tax credit for those who donate to Scholarship Granting Organizations or SGOs.
They must be recognized as nonprofit, and not a private foundation.
The program was established in the One Big Beautiful Bill that passed last year.
The scholarships are meant to cover expenses such as tuition, technology costs and public education supplemental services.
The maximum annual credit is $1,700 per taxpayer, per year.
Taxpayers will be able to claim the federal tax credit beginning January 1, 2027
