Fargo-based truck driver expected to enter US House race

FARGO (KVRR) – A former North Dakota state lawmaker is preparing to run for Congress.

Democrat Vern Thompson of Fargo is an independent truck driver who served in the state House and Senate in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Thompson is a Minnewaukan native. He tells KVRR Local News that this is a “pivotal time” for the nation and says he plans to make a formal announcement next week.

Democrat Trygve Hammer is also running for the House.  Hammer is a retired Marine, former educator, oil field roughneck and current political columnist.

The seat is currently occupied by Republican Rep. Julie Fedorchak.
