Save a Life Saturday Brings Hands-Only CPR Training to West Acres
Just knowing how to do proper chest compressions on someone in cardiac distress could literally mean the difference between life and death.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Valentine’s Day brought many a shopper to West Acres looking to pick up a little something special – but they may have acquired lifesaving skills on top of their gifts.
Sanford Ambulance and the NDSCS EMS Club joined forces for their eighth annual Save a Life Saturday from noon to 4 P.M.
Interested passerby were taught how to perform hands-only CPR and even how to stop bleeding in traumatic situations.
Instructors said even though this demonstration wasn’t the same as getting someone fully CPR certified, knowing these basic tactics could truly make the difference between life or death.
“I personally have talked to over a dozen people, I know my partners have. We’re seeing a pretty good turnout, and people seem genuinely interested in learning. It’s just a couple minutes and it can help save a life,” said Matt Cihak, president of the EMS Club at NDSCS.
Regarding the recommended pace of 100 beats per minute, Cihak added, “that’s the most important part. Pushing hard and fast and calling 911.”
The first 100 people to participate also received a free emergency kit.
