Unborn child dies, woman suffers serious injuries in St. Cloud collision

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KVRR-KFGO) – The unborn child of a woman who was pinned inside her burning van died after a Friday afternoon collision in St. Cloud.
Police say the crash seriously injured 34-year-old Nastaho Amare of St. Cloud.
Amare was in the late stages of pregnancy when a suspected drunken driver hit her van, head-on. Police say an SUV driven by 32-year-old Christopher Otte of Avon swerved into the oncoming lane and struck Amare’s minivan. The crash pinned Amare inside the van and it caught fire.
Amare is in critical condition at St. Cloud Hospital. Otte, who suffered non life-threatening injuries, was later booked into the Stearns County Jail. Results of a blood test are pending.
