YWCA of Cass Clay shares concerns after a grant to provide shelter had not been renewed

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A funding source for shelters across the state has expired, and YWCA of Cass Clay’s CEO has expressed her concerns.
The grant, provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Continuum of Care program, had provided housing for those who were in need.
In 2025, the state received $3.3 million, which provided more than 1,600 beds.
To respond to the dire need, the YWCA of Cass Clay invited Sen. John Hoeven to express their desire to keep the funding going and help women across the state.
“For it to be up in the air the way it was throughout this winter, was the first time I’ve seen that in my nearly 18 years here. Without the senators’ help in passing legislation and advocating for women and children facing homelessness and violence, I believe this funding wouldn’t exist today,” said Erin Prochnow, CEO of YWCA Cass Clay.
Prochnow will be making a trip to D.C. with Sen. Hoeven to go over the details with leaders and its future.
