Vikings team up with Fargo Park District to create high school girls flag football program

FARGO — The Fargo Park District is teaming up with the Minnesota Vikings to start a high school girls flag football pilot program.
The program will be available to high school girls from Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, and the surrounding towns.
It is set to have an eight-week season that would have weekly practices, six regular games, and league playoffs.
The Park District says teams will consist of a minimum of 10 players, with capacity for up to eight teams, and that spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and will have a waitlist if capacity is reached.
It will cost fifty dollars for players to sign up, but scholarships will be available for those who qualify.
The District says the program aligns with the Vikings ongoing efforts to grow the sport and empower young women.
Interested players have until April 1 to sign up for the season set to begin the week of April 13.
If it does well, the program could be part of future expansions into other states in the region.
The scholarships will be available to players who live in Fargo and whose household income falls within the ND DPI Income Eligibility Guidelines and are currently receiving SNAP benefits.
Student athletes have until April 1 to sign up for the season set to begin the week of April 13.
