Hegvik to seek second term as Cass County State’s Attorney

FARGO (KVRR-KFGO) – Cass County State’s Attorney Kim Hegvik is running for a second term.

She’s been a prosecutor for 20 years, first joining the state’s attorneys office in Fargo as an assistant in 2006.

Hegvik says under her leadership, she’s taken a balanced approach on crime.

She says while there’s been a drop in criminal activity recently, she believes there’s a need to continue the work of finding ways to address the underlying causes of crime. Hegvik says that includes prioritizing mental health and alcohol and drug use through alternatives to jail or prison such as treatment courts and prosecution-led diversion programs.

So far, no other candidate has announced a challenge to Hegvik. Former U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider is chairing Hegvik’s campaign committee.
