UPDATE: SWAT arrests man armed with a bat after standoff in downtown Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR: UPDATE 8PM) —  A Fargo man armed with a bat downtown is arrested after a standoff with police and Red River Valley SWAT.

Police say 59-year-old Dennis Christensen was arrested for terrorizing and on unrelated warrant.

They responded to the 100 block of Roberts Street North just before 3 p.m. on a report of an agitated man with a baseball bat hitting walls and making threats.

Police were able to identify the man as Christensen and due to his criminal history, SWAT was called in after he refused to exit his home.

SWAT breached the door and arrested Christensen without incident around 5:30 p.m. and he was taken to Cass County Jail.

(UPDATE 5:45 PM) Our reporter on scene says at least one person has been taken into custody during the  large police presence in downtown Fargo.

A reporter on scene counted as many as nine Fargo Police Department squad cars around 3 p.m. just off of Roberts Street.

About an hour later SWAT arrived on scene.

Sgt. Matt Siders of the Neighborhood Services Division says officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 100 block of Roberts Street North.

An individual had barricaded him or herself within their residence.

This is still an active scene.

There is no word from police or City of Fargo spokespeople about the operation underway.
