Baker Garden and Gift brings tropical carnivorous plant into a workshop

Pings

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — For the first time in the Fargo area, Baker Garden and Gift taught how to take care of and grow a carnivorous plant named Pinguicula.

Also nicknamed as Ping, the carnivorous plant is known to have sticky leaves to capture small insects.

Once a rare plant to find, the plant has become a bit more popular for plant lovers alike.

The workshop took tropical pings and added them into reused terracotta orchid pots.

Digging their hands deep into the dirt, participants were able to take five different kinds of pings home.

“The one thing that I want everybody to know is that the best gardeners are the ones who kill the most plants. So even if you try and you fail, it’s always worthwhile to try again,” said Audrey Gilbraith, Horticulturist at Baker Garden & Gift.

Baker Gift and Garden is looking into growing more pings for the next class in the fall.
