DGF graduate starts GoFundMe to save school’s debate team

DILWORTH, Minn. — A graduate of DGF High School has taken to social media to help save the schools debate team.
Micala Hicks’s graduated from DGF in 2017 and was part of the school’s debate team.
She has started a gofundme to help pay for the school’s team after the they eliminated debate from their budget.
Even though its budget was cut, the school says debate team can continue, if they raise enough money to pay for it.
The money raised will go towards travel expenses, tournament fees, and coaching for the entire debate season.
Hick’s was on the debate team while she attended DGF and says the skills developed in debate has helped her in adult life.
“The more and more that these programs are cut, the less and less opportunities there are for students who are not interested in sports or students who aren’t able to participate in sports,” Hicks said. “So the more and more that these go away, the less there is for these students to do, and stay involved, and learn skills.”
Hicks says DGF is also no longer offering foreign language courses, and has also made cuts to its pep band and choir groups.
