West Fargo man arrested for fleeing, preventing arrest

WEST FARGO — The West Fargo Police Department says they have arrested a man outside Cheney Middle School Tuesday morning, March 31.

According to West Fargo police, at around 8:15 a.m., they attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the intersection of Ninth Street East and 13th Avenue East.

Police say the driver refused to pull over, and continue driving at a low rate of speed to Cheney Middle School. Once there, a child passenger exited the vehicle in the drop-off lane.

The department says the driver then exited the vehicle and started to “aggressively engage” with officers who apprehended the driver without further incident.

Lee Henry Smith, 43, from West Fargo was arrested for misdemeanor fleeing a peace officer and misdemeanor preventing arrest.

Police say Sanford Ambulance cleared Smith and he was transported to the Cass County Jail.
