Moorhead celebrates anniversary of partnership and cultural exchange with Kurdish city of Zakho

MOORHEAD — Minnesota State Moorhead held a special event celebrating one-year of partnership and cultural exchange between the university, Moorhead and the Kurdish city of Zakho.
Attendees were treated to a lunch featuring Kurdish dishes while mingling with the mayor, city commissioners and State Sen. Rob Kupec.
They also watched a video about a delegation of people from Moorhead and MSUM alum visiting Zahko.
The delegation then took to the stage and held a panel answering questions and sharing their first hand experience of the Kurdish city and culture.
“This partnership benefits our entire community from cultural understanding to economic connections to the sense of unity it inspires,” Mayor Carlson said. “It reminds us, as in Paul Wellstone said so eloquently, ‘We are better together'”
Moorhead is home to an estimated 3,500 Kurds, making up approximately 8% of the
city’s population.
