Great Plains Food Bank receives truck load donation as part of a nationwide effort

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A truckload of 40,000 pounds of food arrived at The Great Plains Food Bank. The donation comes as part of the nationwide effort from America250 and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to support families facing hunger

“We believe that we should strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. And he taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves. And so just to give back to others and to help those that are in need is so important,” said Matt, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The national collaboration started back in November of 2025. The goal – deliver 250 truckloads of food across all 50 states. With portions of the donations made coming from the church’s own production. In North Dakota, the donation will feed over 167,000 families.

“It is more than just a plate full of food on the table, which is so, so important. It is the relief that comes from not worrying anymore. It is the nourishment for a child to be able to grow and learn. It is the quality of life a senior experiences when they have a hot meal in front of them,” said Marcia Paulson, Chief Philanthropy Officer at Great Plains Food Bank.

The church has been involved in volunteering with the Great Plains Food Bank for the past several years. As part of the donation, volunteers had also taken time to pack food as well.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to serve others and help out around the community. Definitely getting involved is just a great way to bless your community, and it’s just what Jesus would do,” said Elder Stoddard, Missionary at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Through this collaboration, the 250 deliveries will provide approximately 10 million meals to families in need across the United States.

The donations in North Dakota will soon be delivered over the next few weeks.
