Federal appeals court judge from Fargo to take senior status

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KVRR-KFGO) – A federal circuit court judge from Fargo plans to take senior status.

8th Circuit Court of Appeals Court Judge Ralph Erickson has announced that he will take senior status when his successor is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Erickson was appointed to the circuit court by President Trump during his first term. He’s a former U.S. District Court Judge in Fargo and served as chief judge from 2009 to 2016. Senior status is considered semi-retirement.

President George W. Bush nominated Erickson to the U.S. District Court and he received his judicial commission for the court in 2003.

Before he was named a federal judge and appeals court judge, Erickson was a county judge and Cass County District Court judge.

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals is chambered in St. Louis, Missouri and also conducts hearings in St. Paul.
