FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The newest high school sports program in the Fargo-Moorhead area saw its grand kickoff on April 26.

The Fargo Park District has organized a girls’ flag football league, sponsored by the Minnesota Vikings.

The eight-week season has six regular-season games, a week of playoffs, and even the opportunity to compete for a state championship.

Fargo Park staff say that watching the girls form bonds through the practices in the run-up to opening day has been a really special experience.

“I think it’s been amazing to watch the girls come together and be able to participate,” said Randi Lichty, recreation supervisor for the Fargo Park District. “It’s really cool to see everybody be a part of something.”

The district adds that if this pilot season goes well, there will be plans to expand the program locally as well as statewide.
