Do You Have “Text Neck” Syndrome?

Computers, tablets and cell phones may be causing you a real pain in the neck, literally.

Chiropractors say that many people are going undiagnosed with what they call “Text Neck” Syndrome.

KVRR’s Brittany Ford reports.

We live in a world that is ruled by the constant use of cell phones, but being glued to your phone can affect your health.

Cassie Louwagie has been treated at Health Source Chiropractic for three months.
She works an office job and went years before her pain was properly diagnosed.

“I’d be looking down and I’d kind of get an achy neck that’s been going on for quite a while at least a few years. Where I’ve had just some natural pain but never the headaches,” said Cassie Louwagie, Health Source Chiropractic Patient.

Ignoring the pain, she began having bad headaches, which eventually led her to Dr. Orth.

He explained, her spine was losing its natural curve, due to stress caused by long periods of hunched over posture while using electronics.

what most people don’t realize is that when you’re in a 60-degree texting angle it’s like having seven times this 8-pound weight on top of your shoulders for several hours a day

What Chiropractors like Dr. Orth stress is that you shouldn’t ignore the pain.

“Really understand and need to know is that it’s not just a sore neck, not just a stiff back there is actually changes occurring in your spine,” said Dr. Mason Orth of Health Source Chiropractic.

One example of an exercise you can practice to reduce stress on your spin is bring your shoulder blades back, and hold it like your pinching a walnut hold for 20 seconds a repeat throughout the day.

It also is important to be conscious of posture while texting.

For people like Cassie the diagnosis has changed her life.

“I feel amazing I overall feel healthier, happier”

Chiropractors say younger people are seeing neck pains that are usually associated with older age.
