Mothers and Daughters get a day full of science

"Mommy, Me and SWE" is a day full of diffetrent enginnering projects

Young girls and their moms experience hands–on engineering projects.

Society of Women Engineers hosted a day of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Throughout the morning, mothers and daughters work on hands–on projects that introduce them to different types of engineering.

The four main sections in the event were civil, industrial, mechanical and electrical engineers.

The event is made to encourage young girls to pursue a career in the STEM field.

“We can introduce girls to engineering and it can spark an interest, but what they do and see every day is really going to shape their decisions in the long run. So, getting their mums involved which are huge role models for them, it can just encourage them to continue pursuing this interest every day and not just once a semester,” says Jordyn Johnson the Vice President of Outreach at NDSU Society of Women Engineers.

The SWE also holds a 10-week-after-school program for girls from grades three to seven, each semester. To learn more about it and to register to different programs visit this website.
