Insurance Company Denies Claim for Milwaukee Man Suffering from Skin Condition
A Milwaukee man says his condition may not yet be life threatening, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t life altering.
However, his insurance company says they won’t help anyway.
Keith Crowell is suffering from keloid growth along his face and neck.
Keloids are scars that expand in claw-like growths over normal skin.
They can be painful and the urge to itch them is high, but each case is different for each patient.
Removing keloids is an option, but the likelihood of keloids returning due to the surgery scar is higher than 50 percent.
Crowell says the keloids appeared after he was nicked on his neck by a barber.
He says he has found a surgeon with a 96 percent removal rate but his insurance company refuses to pay for the procedure.
“The insurance rejected my claim saying it was cosmetic surgery and I feel it’s not cosmetic, this is my livelihood, this is my life right here,” said Crowell.
He says he is suffering from hearing loss and is having difficulty swallowing due to the overgrown flesh.
Friends of Crowell have started a GoFundMe page to help him get to New York for the surgery.
