UND Engineering Class Welcomes Grand Forks Eighth Graders

An Engineering Professor encourages young women to explore the benefits of an engineering career

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Engineering students at UND may have noticed some new students in class.

Area 8th grade girls got hands on experience with different types of engineering.

The tour was led by Society of Women Engineers.

The students from five different middle schools in the Grand Forks School District were nominated by their teachers for excelling in math and science.

“I want to show them when you use all those electronics that are really, really cool, those are done by engineers,” said Professor Mojdeh Mardani, who is with the UND College of Engineering. “That means you can be really cool and design that stuff and make it better.”

Female students only account for 15% of the engineering department at UND.
