AVID Students Get a Taste of College Life
Middle schoolers are getting a chance on what it’s like to be in college for a day.
Sixth grade AVID students from Horizon Middle School took a field trip to explore MSUM.
AVID is a program designed to help students prepare for their higher education.
Students were given a tour of the art department and chance to interact with professors.
This field trip gives students the opportunity to explore the unique possibilities college can offer.
“This offers students the availability to plan out their future. And to see what opportunities are possible within the F–M community, as well as within our world and just saying, ‘College is an option for you, we can prepare you for that. Not only can we prepare you for that, we can make you thrive in college. We can give you the skills needed to be incredibly successful,'” says Horizon AVID Prep Teacher Matthias Valan.
All Moorhead schools require sixth graders to be in the AVID program.
This is the first year of the curriculum.
