North Dakota Hockey Prepares For Familiar Foe
Omaha Visits North Dakota This Weekend
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — North Dakota Hockey is fresh off a sweep over Alaska last weekend and now prepares for a tough conference matchup with the Omaha Mavericks visiting the Ralph this weekend. The Mavs skate into Grand Forks with momentum after taking down number 15, St. Cloud State in overtime over the weekend bringing their record to 10-6-2. The Fighting Hawks meanwhile come in red hot on offense netting six goals in both games against Alaska.
Reese Gaber was outstanding in both games, finishing the weekend with three goals and three assists to earn this week’s NCHC Forward of the Week. Cameron Berg joined Gaber on the top line over the weekend also scored in each game. Berg is a native of West Fargo and transferred home to join the Fighting Hawks after playing his first two years of college hockey with Omaha.
“Obviously since I left I have been looking forward to playing these guys. I’m just kind of excited. They’ve done a great job. I think for me it just didn’t work out. But for the time I was there, I am just thankful for them helping me grow my game. I think they have a great program. They have great fans.. they are a great team. They got really good hard workers. They got great players. They got skill. For me it just didn’t work out but it’s a great program,” said Berg.
“They play a hard-style game. They have skill in their lineup and they’ve usually been in one or two goal games, each and every one of them so we know that going in and it’s a situation where the depth of our team and our lines and our D pairs have to play consistently… type of game and play fast and have a situation where we hopefully try to dictate play here a little bit,” said coach, Brad Berry.
