NDSU opens new esports facility
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – NDSU has opened a new esports facility on campus, which is a state of the art center. This new facility will include 36 machines, capabilities to stream the games and this will be free and open to all NDSU students.
“A casual home as well, that we’re in here every week. Honestly everyday. With new people just coming in, hanging out just playing games.” said Carter Buchta, the NDSU Overwatch Esports Club.
Much like UND’s esports facility in Grand Forks, this isn’t just about gaming. This will connect degree programs with it. And it was set up and created through the use of student fees. The esports club started back in 2017, and has grown and grown over the years. To a point where over 350 students are connected to it. What started in a small room in Union Hall, it has led to them occupying Ladd Hall in this brand new facility.
“It wasn’t bad but at the same time it was a little lackluster. This new space shows that NDSU really does care about the gaming community and that they care about the gaming people on campus.” said Buchta.
There are eight games that will be played with the gaming lab. Games like Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., League of Legends, Overwatch, Valorant and Chess.
The new esports facility can be found at Ladd Hall in Room 316.
