Hamling, Bison Host Yotes for Final Home Game of Regular Season
SENIOR GUARD HEAVEN HAMLING PLAYS HER FINAL GAME AT THE SHAC THURSDAY.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)– Seven. That is how many games in a row the Bison women’s basketball team has won. Thursday they will battle South Dakota. That game can notch win number Eight in a row, but it will also be the final game in the SHAC for senior guard Heaven Hamling.
Hamling enters her final game in the SHAC in the top-5 all time in Bison scoring and 3-pointers made, as well as top-10 in assists. Sitting at 18-9 on the year and 12-2 in conference play, Hamling looks to finish her career strong for a program that has meant a lot to her.
“This program has meant everything to me,” said Hamling. “I came in as a 19-year-old kind of not knowing what I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. NDSU has really developed me. It is going to be super emotional, but I am super happy. The 5 years I have spent here been so special.”
Hamling has been on the Bison roster for as long as head coach Jory Collins has been on the sideline as NDSU’s head coach-2019.
Collins speaks highly of Hamling ahead of her final home game.
“She is one of the easiest players I have ever gotten to coach as far as being so low maintenance and such high achieving,” said Collins. “[She is] doing all of the things you want from a player. It has been just an absolute joy to be able to coach her.”
Hamling and the Bison are looking to finish the regular season with two more wins ahead of the Summit League Tournament.
“We are focusing on one game at a time,” said Hamling. “I think going into the tournament, [we] just [have to] give it everything we have. We know we are more than capable of doing anything we put our minds to, so just sticking together as a team, focusing and locking in on every aspect of the game and just taking one game at a time.”
The Bison host the South Dakota Cayotes Thursday night at the SHAC at 7 P.M. then close the regular season at South Dakota State on Saturday.
The Summit League tournament begins March 8 in Sioux Falls, S.D. NDSU is currently the 2-seed for the tournament.
