Whooping cough confirmed at Fargo Davies High School

FARGO (KVRR-KFGO) – The North Dakota Department of Health says one case of pertussis, also called whooping cough, has been confirmed in a theater group at Davies High School in Fargo.

The health department sent an email to parents Wednesday, saying that the disease was confirmed in a student.

Symptoms include coughing fits, prolonged coughing, and coughing to the point of vomiting. The health department says to watch for symptoms after exposure for up to 2 weeks.

The Centers for Disease Control says pertussis is preventable with vaccines. Active cases can be treated with antibiotics.
