MSUM hosts event for immigrant and refugee students

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — MSUM held their first Pathways to MSUM event on Saturday to help immigrant and refugee families learn about their options for education at the school.

The event was held in partnership with the Immigrant Development Center, and aimed to help students learn about their options at MSUM.

According to the IDC many of students from immigrant and refugee families have difficulty navigating the landscape of higher education in the U.S.

IDC Program Director Jihan Brifki said that many of them are first generation college students and events like this can help them find success and choose the right programs for them.

“An event like this is an opportunity for them. To understand okay, this is all available to have all the information. Then you have a better chance of you know, deciding if this is the place for you or not.”
The Immigrant Development Center is hoping to put on more events like this at other schools in the area.
