MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KVRR/KFGO) — Authorities have identified the man who shot and killed Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell in what investigations say was an ambush.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says the shooter was 35-year-old Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed.

Michell was reportedly answering a shots fired call in South Minneapolis and was attempting to help two injured people.

BCA investigators believe one of those people was Mohamed, who shot Mitchell, who they say kept firing after the officer fell to the ground.

Mohamed was then shot and killed during the gunfight with police.

Those officers are identified as Nick Kapinos and Luke Kittock.

Court records show Mohamed had two active warrants for his arrest when the shooting happened last Thursday.

A third person died in the shooting, and four others were hurt.
