Thompson 3-Peats in Class B Baseball; Defeats Grafton 4-3 Via Walk-Off

THE TOMMIES WON THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN DRAMATIC FASHION; 4-3 OVER GRAFTON.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KVRR)–Thompson entered Saturday’s championship game versus Grafton winners of two straight class B Titles. They got their third in spectacular fashion.

At Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown the Thompson Tommies battled the Grafton spoilers in their quest for a third straight championship. Junior Jonathan Muhs came to the plate with the bases loaded no outs in a tie game and delivered a base hit over the head of the right fielder to score the game winning run.

“We got to the bottom of seventh… I had it planned out,” said Muhs. “I counted up… I was gonna be up with bases loaded and I was just praying I could deliver. I did, but I’m lucky my teammates got on base. That’s what started it off. So, I have to give credit to them.
The run was scored by senior Brayden Wolfgram. He shares what the play was like from his perspective.
“Just off the bat I had to go tag up,” said Wolfgram. “They were kind of in and then saw it over his head. I started running… saw the whole dugout run towards Jonathan and I knew I had to get in that doggy pile, so, just fun game for sure.”
With the walk-off winner, the Tommies notched that coveted three peat and Head Coach Nate Soulis shared what that accomplishment means to the program.
“It means so much for the seniors that are leaving,” said Soulis, who was named Class B coach of the year after the championship game. “They were the first group that I came in with and they were freshmen. Some of them played and they were super small. Just watching them grow as individuals and as players and now they’re moving on to the next stages of their life. Hopefully this is a memory that they’ll hold for a very long time.”
For senior pitcher Brayden Wolfgram, who pitched a complete game in the win and struck out 10 batters, he ends his high school career as a champ and shares what the Tommies baseball program has meant to him.
“Keeping that tradition going, honestly,” said Wolfgram. “I mean, either way, win or lose that game, Thompson baseball is just one of the best and just keeping that going. We had two great senior groups the last two years and even the third year now. So, just continuing that. They will be good again next year. So they’ll keep that tradition going. [It was great] going out with that big win.
And it’s not a big win without a water shower for the head coach during the postgame interview.
Coach Soulis said, “I’ll always wear that one. That is always special.”
The Tommies graduate four seniors.
