Former State Senator to Plead Guilty in Child Sex Case

FARGO (KVRR/KFGO) – Former North Dakota state Sen. Ray Holmberg will plead guilty to traveling to the Czech Republic to have sex with children.

In a plea agreement, Holmberg admits that he repeatedly traveled from North Dakota to Prague between 2011 and 2016 to have sex with adolescent-aged children and that there is enough evidence of it to find him guilty in court.

The maximum penalty for the crime is 30 years in prison, but as part of the plea agreement, the U.S. Justice Department will ask for a sentence on the low end of the spectrum.

Holmberg, 79, also waives his right to an appeal.

A sentencing date has not been set.

Holmberg, a Republican, served over 45 years in the North Dakota Senate.

He is also linked to 36-year-old Nicholas Morgan-Derosier of Grand Forks who was just sentenced to 40 years in prison for child porn.

While Morgan-Derosier was jailed, he exchanged numerous texts with Holmberg.
