With Division II on the horizon, Jamestown football keeping upcoming season in focus

JAMESTOWN (KVRR) – The Jamestown Jimmies are preparing for the upcoming season as they are playing one more season before heading off to the Division II level. However, this team is keeping the season ahead in focus before looking to 2025.

“I think we’ve had such an amazing summer. We had 90+ guys that stuck around this summer and put in the work, did the things they needed to do to give themselves a chance to be successful.” said Head Coach Brian Mistro.

While there are plenty of upperclassmen on the roster, there is also a huge wave of young talent. The leadership on the Jimmies has been tasked to lead this group and mold them into the next generation of football at Jamestown.

“Coming in five years ago it was a lot different then it is now. I think our group has really set this tone and set the standard of what the young guys need to be. Really good group of young guys. They’re catching on how it needs to be.” said Parker Chaffee, senior strong safety.

There is plenty of excitement around the Jimmies program because they will be making the jump next to the Division II level, leaving NAIA behind. But players and the coaching staff are keeping their focus on the season in front of them.

“We’ve talked about it a little bit but for the most part we’re talking to our guys about living in the moment. We have a year here where we’re able to play some of our old foes, teams that I played when I was a student-athlete here. Our guys are excited, but we’re not letting that excitement look beyond. We’re in the season right now. We need to take everyday, one day at a time.” said Coach Mistro.

For the seniors and 5th year players on this roster, they won’t be heading to D-II, this is their final ride with Jamestown. And they are excited to go out there and give it their all one last time for the Jimmies program and play alongside their brothers.

“These guys have been kind of with me through thick and thin. Been there through the highs and lows, everything. It’s kind of sad to know this is going to be my last dance. But at the same time, I wouldn’t want to do it with anybody else.” said senior wide receiver, Isaiah Roebuck.

The Jimmies open their season on August 29 on the road against the University of Mary Marauders.
