Former sheriff’s deputy pleads guilty to misapplication of money

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) – A former Ramsey County, North Dakota sheriff’s deputy who resigned from the department in March and later faced criminal charges after an investigation into money missing from a program administered by the department, pled guilty to a single misdemeanor charge.

Benjamin Myrum of Devils Lake pleaded guilty to misapplication of less $500 of entrusted property. A felony theft charge against Myrum was dropped.

He was given a 30-day suspended jail sentence and was ordered to pay restitution, fines, and fees and serve a year of unsupervised probation.

Myrum must write a letter of apology to Ramsey County Sheriff Bryan Lang and State BCI Agent Steve Gilpin within 30 days.
