DNR contract airplane crashes into Minnesota lake

WALKER, Minn. (KVRR) – A contracted Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fire suppression aircraft crashed into a lake Tuesday in rural Remer, Minnesota.

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk says the single-engine plane crashed into the southern end of Inguadona Lake, in Trelipe Township.

Several witnesses were able to rescue the pilot, a 56-year-old man from Texas. He was treated for minor injuries and was the only person aboard.

Welk says the pilot was completing a routine proficiency flight when the plane crashed into the lake.

The incident remains under investigation by the FAA, the DNR and the National Transportation Safety Board.
