THE NEW ROCKFORD-SHEYENNE-MADDOCK ROCKETS SCORED 62 POINTS EN ROUTE TO A 62-26 WIN OVER LAMOURE-LICHVILLE/MARION

HIGHLIGHTS:

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) –New Rockford-Sheyenne-Maddock wins their first state title since 2012 with a 62-26 win over LaMoure-Litchville/Marion in the North Dakota 9-man football championship.

The Rockets scored 62 points, a new Dakota Bowl record surpassing the 60 points scored by Wyndmere-Lidgerwood in 2017.

“For the seniors, man, they’ve wanted it since that loss last year, and they’re hungry,” said head coach Elliott Belquist after the win. “It’s not a team that just shows up this year. They put in the work they dreamed about, be on this big stage, and they got it. They got it, and I couldn’t be more proud for them.

Running back Carter Engebretson rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

“It’s been my dream,” said Engebretson. “This has been what’s been keeping me up since when we started football in fall camp. It’s just overwhelming, and I’m so grateful for everything.”

On the 62 points the offense scored, Engebretson said, “We’ve been setting our own records. I think we’re the best nine-man team to ever play here. There might be another team to come by and surpass us, but for now we’re going to have that record and we’re going to hold on to it and we’re going to cherish it.
