Egg prices keep rising due to avian flu outbreaks
FARGO — You might have sticker shock the next time you’re in the egg section of your local grocery store.
Area grocery stores currently have egg prices at around $6 per dozen.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the biggest cause for the rise in egg prices is due to the avian influenza outbreaks that have been causing many producers to kill their flocks.
The owner of Randy’s Diner, Robert Steussi says he is currently paying over $90 for a case of 15-dozen medium eggs with cases of large eggs sitting at $109.
Despite the rise in costs, he says he won’t be raising prices.
“I don’t see any of that coming in the future yet. We go through a lot of eggs, but you know, hopefully our potato people keep us in business by giving me a good deal on the hash browns,”
He expects to see even more increases in the price of all poultry-related products.
