WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) – A former gaming employee for the West Fargo Hockey Association has been charged with felony theft for stealing about $68,000 from the organization.

Steven Lyon of Moorhead was a longtime employee who was a bingo manager.

Association Executive Director Jeremy Jorgenson says Lyon took the money from electronic gambling machines.

Jorgenson says when confronted, Lyon admitted to the theft. He says Lyon was fired, but was able to pay the money back almost immediately.

The theft was reported to the state gaming commission as required and Jorgenson says Lyon will not be allowed to work in charitable gaming in North Dakota in the future.

Jorgenson says the association’s auditor discovered discrepancies quickly and processes and procedures were in place that linked the theft to Lyon.

The association has 11 gaming sites in West Fargo and Cass County.
