Bureau of Prisons to determine if Holmberg can be provided adequate care

FARGO (KVRR) – A federal judge says the Bureau of Prisons will have access to hundreds of pages of medical records to determine if the agency has the ability to provide adequate medical care to former state Senator Ray Holmberg.

Holmberg pleaded guilty last August to traveling overseas with the intent to have sex with minors. He’s currently in custody awaiting sentencing March 26.

Court documents say Holmberg intends to submit the testimony of a doctor who will testify at his sentencing hearing about Holmberg’s “many medical conditions.”

Approximately 900 pages of medical records were filed under seal by the defense.

But U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland says prosecutors would not be prohibited from contacting the Bureau of Prisons and sharing general information about any defendant’s medical condition.

Holmberg was ordered to turn himself in on November 1, after Hovland determined he violated the terms of his release.
