Former Hornbacher’s president Dean Hornbacher dead at age 79

FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – The former president of Hornbacher’s in Fargo-Moorhead has died.

Dean Hornbacher died on Saturday at Sanford Fargo Hospice House at age 79.

His father, Ted Hornbacher opened the first store in 1951 under the name Ted’s Supervalu in Moorhead. Dean Hornbacher went to work for the family business full-time in 1967. The name was changed to Hornbachers in 1968. He retired in early 2010.

Supervalu took over the stores in 1975. They are now owned by St. Cloud, Minnesota-based Coborn’s.
