Tacos Reynosa future unknown after issues arise between owners and landlord

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — What started as a taste of Mexican culture in West Fargo has turned dark. As Tacos Reynosa announced on social media they have been shut down by West Fargo inspectors due to an unsafe roof and an inoperable kitchen.

“There’s not a measure we could’ve done to prevent the breakers from tripping all the time. The outlets going out and having to run extension cords to the outside to keep the warmers running at least. Until the lights actually went out,” said Javi Ortiz Jr., Owner’s Son of Tacos Reynosa.

Javi Ortiz Jr. has been running Tacos Reynosa with his parents since December 2024. Prior to moving in, Ortiz says the only thing updated in the building was the floor. But trouble has been continuous.

“When we started having problems and I started relaying. It started being I will look into it. I will get my contractors, I will do this and months passed. It just keeps growing the number of rain days that we had to slow down, shut down and the days that we’re shut down that we come and there’s no light, no electricity, it just starts getting longer and longer,” said Javi Ortiz Jr.

Building owner Amar Ali says the owners of the restaurant haven’t paid rent since March 15th.

“He started accusing us for water leakage and I approached by the inspector of the city of West Fargo, Mr. Mark Housh, a great guy. Then the business it’s shut down. We ask for access to it, to take care of it, we are not giving any access,” said Amar Ali, Owner of Omni Property Holding.

Ali mentions while never having prior food industry experience, the business has not been running smoothly and that he will be changing how he gets new business opportunities in the future.

“It’s more of looking into the history, of looking to the experience, it’s what the big restaurant or franchise doing,” said Amar Ali, Owner of Omni Property Holding.

As of right now, there is no word when or if Tacos Reynosa may open again.
