Fargo Police Department Holds News Conference Regarding Arrest of Tyrque Jones

The department says the arrest was made possible thanks to cooperation with a variety of agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service North Star Task Force based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Four months to the day that 19-year-old Azeem Holmes was killed in a shooting outside District 64 in Downtown Fargo, wanted suspect Tyrque Jones was finally apprehended – in somewhat anticlimactic fashion.

“It was without incident. The only thing I can say is I think he tried to give a fake name when they dealt with him,” said Captain Matt Christensen of the Fargo Police Department, who led the news conference on December 3rd.

Christensen said the arrest had taken place in Minneapolis earlier that day and was carried out by U.S. Marshals. He was apparently located at a residence that had recently come to the attention of FPD through their investigative efforts.

Christensen acknowledged the duration of time it had taken to bring Jones into custody was upsetting, but the important thing now was getting closure for the Holmes family, and the department always believed they’d secure their suspect.

Jones is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail.

FPD says they’re working with the Cass County State’s Attorney’s office to extradite Jones back to Cass County.

They do not yet have an estimate on how long that process will take.
