Voters Take it to the Polls for School Referendums

Nearly one third of the school districts in Minnesota are holding referendum bond votes.
Moorhead has a long wish list including a new elementary, renovations and security upgrades.
Voters we spoke to say they were out for different reasons.
“I’m going to be voting yes on the Moorhead school district referendum,” says voter Janelle Brandon.
Brandon’s two children are home schooled so the bond approval will not directly affect her children’s education, but she says her ‘Yes’ vote is a matter of setting a good example.
“The opportunity to exercise our civic duty in a democratic society, and that’s something that we try to model for our children as well,” says Brandon.
“I will be voting yes on the referendum school bond in Moorhead,” says voter Peter Haberman.
Haberman lives in Moorhead and works at Concordia College. He is casting his vote in favor of the bond, because he knows firsthand how important education is.
“Being in education I kind of understand the price it takes, the cost it takes to do it well, and seeing my daughter in a class of near 30 instead of near 20 I know what that means for her education,” says Haberman.
Others weren’t as open to share their voting decision.
“I’m just voting my own thoughts and opinions,” says voter Elaine Borud.
But people like Elaine say voting is just something everyone should do.
“Because somebody them to or they think they should have to, I think as a citizen of this country enjoy the freedom that they have to do this and I think it’s so important,” she says.
An important process that will impact the future of the school district either way.
