GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — A Grand Forks man is now charged with attempted murder for stabbing a former girlfriend on Valentine’s Day at the Lagrave Place Apartments.

Court documents show 42-year-old Fernando Lucio arrived with Valentine’s gifts and then left to get the victim cough drops.

Her kids reported that Lucio returned and told the woman “you don’t appreciate me”.

He then got a knife from the kitchen and choked and stabbed the woman in her bed.

As he fled the apartment, one of the kids jumped on his back and he bit her arm.

Lucio was located at a neighboring apartment building and arrested.

The victim was taken to Altru with non life-threatening injuries.

During the interview with investigators he alleged he “blacked out” saying he suffers from mental health issues.

Other charges include aggravated assault, domestic violence, reckless endangerment and terrorizing.
