FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Two lucky officers with the Fargo Police Department will soon have their squad cars decked out in custom designs, created by Fargo students.

Middle and high school students were invited to create the designs as part of a contest run by the department and Fargo Public Schools.

The winners are eleventh-grader Kaj Naujokas from Davies and sixth-grader Lourdes “Lulu” Bad Bear from Discovery.

Nearly five thousand votes were cast.

The resource officer we talked to says he’s excited to drive his squad car once the wrap is finished.

“I got a five-year-old son, and he looked at me when I showed him the squad car design, and he said, daddy you get to drive a Hot Wheels now. So, the reality is, the police department, we’re all human too. And really, our number one goal is to meet everybody where they’re at. And so by driving this car, we’ll have it at community events, things like that. And it’s just to understand that we’re all human as well and we just want to find different ways to connect,” said Andrew Dotas, School Resource Officer.

The project is funded by the Fargo Police Foundation, and no taxpayer money was used.
