UND receives almost half a million dollars to research coal conversion technologies.
The money comes from the federal government and the school is one of six nationwide to receive such a grant.
Officials say it will allow researchers to take a closer look at more efficient fossil energy–based power generation.
The research will be done through computer simulation and school leaders say it’s great hands on experience for graduate students.
“It’s definitely a very big deal. We would like to be thought of as, North Dakota has a very high energy focus. We definitely would like to be thought of as one of the good institutions to do energy related research,” said Chemical Engineering Asst. Professor Gautham Krishnamoorthy.
The research is being done as a collaborative effort with the University of Utah.
