College Students: Get an “A” in Car Maintenance
Sorry, this video is no longer available
College kids are heading back to school and bringing their cars.
But are they keeping care of it?
KVRR’s Sarah Brechbill tells us what kids should know when it comes to basic car maintenance.
Checking your oil and changing a tire is easy … right?
“Do you know how to change your oil?” “No.”
“Do you know how to check your windshield wiper fluid?” “No, I don’t know anything.”
They’re not alone.
According to a U.S. news report, two thirds of teen drivers are either clueless or have average knowledge about basic car maintenance.
“Maintain your tire pressure, look at your door on the driver’s side and you’ll see the recommended tire pressure for your tires. Make sure your coolant is good. Check your belts.”
There’s a lot on Mike’s list, but the one thing he would suggest to stay on top of…
“You need to change your oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months.”
If you hear a weird noise in your car or see a warning light come on, don’t ignore it. Take it to a local auto shop and find out what’s wrong.
And when you’re at the mechanic, make sure to learn the basics…like learning how to change a tire… it’s harder than it looks.
“Yeah just pop open the trunk, take out the spare, then there’s the jack in the back trunk in the little panel you have to take off, you jack your car up and then there’s also a wrench… “
At least for me…Sarah Brechbill KVRR News.
Patton warns college kids to not just rely on warning lights for car upkeep. He says physical maintenance is the only way to make sure your car is running smoothly.
