Teachers in Moorhead are one step closer to reaching additional pay for their performance.
After nine meetings, teacher’s union leaders and the Moorhead school administrators have reached an agreement.
The Moorhead school district is exploring the idea of Q-Comp. It’s Minnesota’s teacher pay-for-performance program.
It’s purpose is to give monetary incentives to teachers for improving education by obtaining more outside training and reaching goals set for the district.
It took nine meetings for a group of teachers and Moorhead administrators, including the superintendent, to come up with a memorandum of understanding.
“Once this plan is developed, the plan must be ratified by our members, by a majority of one plus vote with members present, it must be approved by the school board, and it must be approved by the state,” says David Kanuch, the teacher’s chief negotiator.
The next step for the teachers and administrators is to come up with an official Q-Comp plan that will have to be approved by several entities including the state of Minnesota.
The group hopes to have a plan ready for approval by next spring.
Wednesday night’s meeting was also the last step in Moorhead teachers reaching a tentative agreement on their 2015-2017 Teacher’s Master Contract.
