Orange cones and construction signs will soon be coming to Main Avenue in West Fargo.

NDDOT predicts to start the project as early as this Thursday.

The construction planned for between I–94 and Morrison Street in West Fargo will shake things up for two major tourist attractions this summer.

These streets are quiet now but that will soon change which means travel troubles for those coming to the area.

The Red River Valley Fairgrounds has some concerns as their busy season approaches.

Red River Valley Fairgrounds Bryan Schulz says, “We just want to make sure we have access for all the events we’ve got going on. You know our fair July 7 to the 12. That’s going to be a big thing for load in. For our carnival with Murphy Brothers bringing in their 45 semis.”

Bonazaville also runs into a problem.

The construction will interfere with those visiting the tourist attraction.

They only have one way in and one way out, and to fix that would be a burden.

Bonanzaville Brenda Warren says, “We need to extend the fence and then there’s a building in the way that has to be moved and it’s $25,000 that Bonanzaville just doesn’t have.”

NDDOT’s construction plan for Main Avenue in West Fargo will be a two year project and is predicted to be complete by November 2016.

Kevin Gorder says, “From about Morrison Street, Francis Street out to the Interstate. In 2015, it’s going to be from Drain 21 somewhere between just west of 8th or 9th Street out to Interstate.”

With the increased traffic volume in the city on the grow, NDDOT plans to reconstruct the roadway into five lanes, remove frontage roads, make a new water main and sanitary sewer as well as replace the Sheyenne River Bridge in addition to a few smaller projects.

West Fargo’s Main Avenue will be reduced down to two lanes.

One lane each way.

And NDDOT recommends that drivers plan ahead.

The Assistant District Engineer says, “Allow yourself a little more time and just really eliminate distractions.”

Though Bonanzaville has financial concerns, the Red River Valley Fairgrounds believes that NDDOT will make sure the construction goes as smoothly as possible.

Schulz adds, “They’re very open to listening to what we are asking for and to work with us.”
