New Sights For Fargo Marathon
Another big change in the route for the annual Fargo Marathon to avoid any potentially flooded roads.
This year, organizers decided to feature some of our local universities.
Students like Trisha Molitor are excited the Fargo Marathon will be featuring area schools.
Molitor registered early for the marathon.
She’s typically a swimmer, but is eager for the new challenge.
“It’s a great way for people to see all of the campuses and I think it’s a really cool idea because you know the schools that are around this area are very important,” said NDSU Student Molitor.
For the first time, the Fargo Marathon will start inside of the Fargodome and racers will make their way through local colleges like MSUM, NDSU and Concordia.
MSUM President Anne Blackhurst is credited with helping bring the marathon through the universities.
She is an avid runner and last year she ran 50 laps to help raise money for the school.
“She’s been a very vocal supporter of the Marathon and we just thought it would make really good sense to try and tie them in,” said Fargo Marathon Executive Director Mark Knutson.
More than 24,000 runners from across the country and around the world are expected to set their sights on the areas’ major campuses.
“We’ve got excellent universities, excellent you know opportunities for education,” said Knutson.
Michelle Soto is a student at MSUM.
She isn’t the biggest fan of running but can appreciate that the race is coming to campus.
“Well I hate running so I think it will be cool. I really like watching marathons and stuff cause my aunt does it a lot,” said MSUM Student Soto.
Even though we’re months away from the race, students like Molitor will keep training for the big day.
