Controlled Fire Spreads In Glyndon

What was supposed to be a small controlled fire turns into a near disaster in Glyndon. A woman started a small fire by burning leaves around 5 p.m. Sunday.

The fire spread hundreds of yards across a field near highway 10. The fire was nearing the train tracks and a train was approaching but crews were able to prevent it from spreading.

Glyndon, Hawley, Dilworth and Barnesville crews assisted. Law enforcement have a suggestion for anyone who is thinking about burning.

“Let your leaves sit for another day or two, once the winds die down or maybe get some rain. I don’t know, but it would really be helpful to all area fire departments if people would just not burn,” says Sargent Mark Empting of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

There were no injuries reported.
